Nine Bulldogs Girls Add to 65-29 Ralston Rout; Auburn Unable to Close out Freeman in Overtime Loss on Friday

The Auburn girls basketball team moved to 2-4 on the season following one win and one loss last week. On Thursday, December 14 10 Bulldogs added to Auburn’s scoring total, resulting in Auburn’s largest win of the season. The next day, the Bulldogs were on the brink of their second straight victory, but were unable to withstand a late Falcon run, dropping the game on the road.

Both Auburn and Weeping Water needed some time to ease into the 2023-24 season. The Indians were quicker to adjust to Auburn’s defense than the Bulldogs were to Weeping Water’s extended zone. A pattern of early Bulldog turnovers left the home team down 5-0 in the early stages of the game. Senior point guard Sydney Binder helped the Bulldogs settle into the game with two first quarter threes. Fellow senior Zoe Baltensperger added a basket and a foul shot to give the ‘Dogs a 9-8 edge after the first quarter.

With three minutes and thirty seconds remaining in the third quarter of Auburn’s home opener against Malcolm, the Clippers knocked down a three pointer in transition that put the Bulldogs in a 29-23 hole. Malcolm, who handed Auburn a season-opening loss last year, threatened to do the same Friday night in Auburn.
