Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) was updated on the Auburn Residential Development Project (Westgate).
Since 2016, the Nemaha County Sheriffs Office and Nebraska State Troopers have spent a December day making Christmas memories for the children of Nemaha County. The annual Shop With a Cop program allows Nemaha County children grades first through fifth that are in need of extra support during the holiday season to go on a shopping spree for Christmas gifts for themselves and others. Participants are chosen from referrals from law enforcement’s encounter with children, school personnel, and at times the public.
What started as just another holiday decoration became a practical addition with an amazing cause. At 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, Langley Gerdes set up shop at the end of her parents’ driveway serving hot chocolate and sweet treats for $1 apiece, and every penny of the proceeds was donated to Auburn’s Backpack Program.
