Rohman Gardens Nearly Finished; Sept. 18 Dedication at Brownville

Rohman Gardens, the newest addition to the Gov. Robert Furnas Arboretum in Brownville, is nearing the end of its construction phase. Construction on the project began in the spring of 2018 and is set to finish in late August or early September of this year. A dedication ceremony is set for Saturday, September 18 at 4:00 p.m.

Rohman Gardens, which is located at the corner of Fifth and Main Street across from the Schoolhouse Art Gallery, is named after Carl Rohman, who was instrumental in designing and creating the arboretum as well as saving many of the historic homes in the Brownville community.

Currently, the concrete of the circular walkway is complete along with the pergola at the entrance and the benches around the walkway. Two trees on either side of the pergola have been planted as well as the bushes on the inside of the walkway. The large rock with a poem from U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser is set in the garden as well. Behind the rock at the entrance stands a flagpole hoisting American flag.

Plans are to add electricity which will constantly power lights around the garden along with completion of the history wall. The wall itself is up, but is blank at the moment. Flowers still need to be planted in certain areas of the garden. Events after the opening of the garden are still being planned for community use.
