Auburn Girls Drop Final Two Games of Before February 13 Subdistrict Tournament Tip-Off

The Bulldog girls dropped their final two home games in the last week of basketball before the postseason begins. Sydney Binder led the Bulldogs with 8 points against the Rockets on Tuesday, February 6 and 15 points against Lincoln Lutheran on Thursday, February 8, but it wasn’t enough to put Auburn over the top in either game. Entering the postseason the Bulldogs are 10-12 on the year.

It took extra basketball for a Pioneer Conference girls basketball champion to be crowned at Southern High School on Saturday, February 3, but in the end, Falls City Sacred Heart would avenge a January 25 loss to the Lady Eagles to claim the title, making Johnson-Brock the tournament runners-up. On their way to the conference title game, Johnson-Brock earned a 54 point win over Sterling on Tuesday, January 30 and held off Diller-Odell in the semifinals in Wymore.

Bulldogs Drop ECNC Quarterfinal to Palmyra; Finish Tournament 2-1 to Win Consolation Bracket Led by Binder’s Scoring

The defending ECNC girls basketball champion Auburn Bulldogs were denied a chance to repeat their title following a first round loss in the conference tournament Palmyra, but managed to defeat Mead and Falls City to go 2-1 and place fifth in the tournament. After another winning week, the Bulldogs are 10-10 on the season.

Defense Allows Eagles to Prevail Over Trojans in Overtime to Repeat as Pioneer Conference Champions

The Trojans of Tri County became the first team in 19 Eagle boys basketball games to stay within single digits of the number one team in class D1 this season, but still fell short of knocking off Johnson-Brock in an overtime battle. Instead, the Eagles tallied their 27th consecutive win and 19th this season to crown themselves the Pioneer Conference Tournament champions for the second straight year.
