Eagles Lose 14-54 at Falls City Sacred Heart; Open Playoffs Oct. 31 at Home Against Wynot

Friday, October 24, saw a highly anticipated matchup in Class D-2 with the #4 rated Eagles of Johnson-Brock facing off against the #2 rated Falls City Sacred Heart at Jug Brown Stadium in Falls City. Last season the two teams, who were both undefeated at the time, met at Johnson-Brock, where the Eagles emerged victorious with a 52-46 win over the Irish. The Irish would go on to lose to St. Francis 54-36 in the quarter final round of the 2018 NSAA state football championship tournament. The Eagles would go on to beat St. Francis 58-44 in the semi-final round, and eventually defeat Mullen 56-26 to claim the 2018 Class D-2 state championship with an unbeaten 13-0 record.

The 2019 season proved to be a different story. This season, the Irish were the only undefeated team with a 7-0 record entering the game against Johnson-Brock, while the Eagles held a 6-1 record. Both teams had top 5 ratings entering the week, but the Irish showed early why they were rated higher.

After starting their second drive of the game at their own 28-yard line, a three play drive from the Irish claimed the first lead of the game. Eagle seniors Kolt Davis and Ty Hahn defended the goal line on the two-point conversion and held the score to 6-0 with 6:19 left in the first quarter.
