JULIE D. MAYER

1942-2020

Julie Mayer, 78, of Coupeville, Washington, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Regency on Whidbey, in Oak Harbor, Washington.

Julie was born January 15, 1942, in Auburn, Nebraska, the daughter of Lind and Bernice Mayer. She attended grades K-8 at Hopkins and Rosemont, both of which were one-room rural schoolhouses. She finished her last four years of education at Auburn High School. After high school, she attended Nebraska State Teachers College at Peru, Nebraska, where she received her teaching degree in secondary education.

In 1963, Julie moved to southern California where she had a distinguished career in education, both as a teacher and administrator until her retirement

Julie was always interested in others and made friends easily. She was known for her kindness and generosity, not only to people, but also to her pets and animal rescue organizations.

Things that brought her joy were reading, her Pugs, gourmet cooking, painting, and needlework. But most of all, she loved living on Whidbey Island and appreciating its beautiful scenery and meadows.

Julie is survived by her sister, Janis (Jed) Rood; brother, Robert (Gal) Mayer; nephews and niece, David (Nolani) Rood, Dan Rood, Eric (Johnnie Lee) Mayer, Becky Simpson, and Michael (Ashley) Mayer.

Julie was preceded in death by her father, Lind W. Mayer and her mother, Bernice M. Mayer.

There will be no services. As per Julie’s wishes, she will be cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Bedford Cemetery near Howe, Nebraska.
