Nemaha County Hospital Prepares for COVID-19

Nemaha County Hospital has taken steps to identify and deal with the Coronavirus locally.

Prior to my March 26 visit to obtain information about the hospital’s steps in preparing for COVID-19, I had a new experience before entering the main doors. I noticed at the entrance signs advising of the additional precautions in place and was met by a staff member who asked me several basic screening questions and checked to see if I had a fever. As my temperature was normal, I was allowed to enter the hospital and begin my interview.

The pre-screening is an assessment recommended by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The patient is asked if they have been in quarantine for the virus, if they have a fever greater than 100.4 degrees, feel feverish or have new respiratory symptoms such as cough or shortness of breath, in the past 14 days have you returned from any travel and have you been in close contact with others that are confirmed with the virus: coughed or sneezed on; less than 10 feet for a period of time, such as living with the person(s), sharing work space, caring for sick relatives/friends, others. Patients who answer “no” to all these questions can enter the hospital after using hand sanitizer available at the entrance.
